Dear readers,
Welcome to the new issue of our journal. Its feature topic is clinical speech therapy practice with the adult population. Although adults do not constitute the majority of our clients, they are a significant aspect of our professional care. Our journal usually does not devote as much space to them as they deserve, and we hereby seek to put that right – at least to some extent. Three articles are devoted to the captivating topic of cognitive function testing in speech therapy practice. Interesting insight into the world of phatic functions is to be found in an article on transient aphasia associated with migraine with aura, an article on the mind-mapping method in aphasia therapy, and an article on the viability of drawing data from the speech analysis of a patient with aphasia to the therapy of this disorder. Extensive research data are provided by the text on communication between healthcare personnel and aphasics. In this issue, we also do not neglect one important diagnosis that many STs address, not only at inpatient clinics – dysphagia. There are two contributions on the subject. And of course just as interesting are the articles we provide for you in the Varia section, outside the main topic.
Some readers may be surprised to see no less than three papers published in English. Do not worry if you are not proficient, you will not have to struggle with translating them. A Czech translation is available with each, just click on the link in the preamble – ‘Tento článek si můžete v českém jazyce přečíst zde’.
Finally – with regard to the editorial illustrative photo – let me come back to the topic of adulthood and aging. Human life can be viewed in different ways, and one metaphor can be the that of a wheat stalk. Green stalks bring joy to the hearts of onlookers, a new life arising, seemingly out of nowhere. That verdant, spontaneous joy of youth is soon replaced by the quiet ripening of adulthood, tenaciously growing ears of nutritious corn. After adulthood comes maturity, when the ears of corn bow their heads under their ripe weight. Yet, this maturity does not have to be seen as being weighed down by life, rather it can be seen as humbly paying respects to the realization and wisdom that there is no longer any rush, and that you can bide your time awhile, without fearing the future. And, dear readers, this is what we wish you, with all our hearts. No matter what stage of life you are in, may you seek and find joy in the present moment and mindfulness, free from worries and anxiety about the future.
